Feasibility to automate a task

Feasibility to automate a task

There are many tasks that can be automated in many sectors where there is human intervention, time and cost are incurred. But that’s not all, Automating every task is not beneficial. We need to know whether a task can be automated or not. There are several factors based on which we can decide whether we can automate a task or not, consider the below list of categories were need to check before automating the task.

Complexity

To start with we need to consider the complexity of the process that is being automated. The level of complexity has direct impact on whether we can automate the process or not. Simple processes which have simple rules in their flow can be automated. Even when the process is complex but it is rule based, where there are several rules based on which different calculations are can be still automated. A Process where human thinking ability and decision making is involved cannot be automated, which involves lot of risk.

Stability

Applications which are in build stage or if the application is updated or migrated, we should not choose that for automation. Since they are unstable if we automate these applications once the applications changes we may need to change the automation process as well to adapt to new release of application.  So it is recommended to automate the stable and standard applications which are nor prone to changes.

Volume

Not every simple stable application can be automated. We need to check how frequently the process is repeated. If the process has high volume like running the same set of operations for more number of times a day is more recommended to be automated. If the process happens to run once in a month whose volume is less cannot be considered for automation.

Human intervention

We pick processes which are defined by rules where we capture all rules affront and robot will decide actions based on those rules according to situations. But at some points some process may require human intervention where they need to take decisions which don’t have  specific rules. In this scenario automation is not suited, but if the process is big we can divide the process into parts where rule based can be automated and other is left to the human for his action.

Security

Security plays a key role in many of the data entry processes with lot of restrictions placed on the operations team. But still companies are not sure about data privacy and perform audits to check whether all rules are correctly followed. To eliminate human risk robots can play a vital role by automating these data entry tasks. The robots will retrieve passwords for different applications from password vaults and perform data entry. This not only eliminates risk of data security but also enhances performance in terms of time and data accuracy.
