UiPath Robot Scheduling with Task scheduler

UiPath Robot Scheduling with Task scheduler

Once the robots are created these robots needs to be running in order to complete the work for which they are designed for. Instead of running throughout the day we can schedule them to run at a certain time for certain interval of time. We need to be clear about the time when it needs to be scheduled to run, frequency of runs , interval between the runs, etc..,
In this tutorial we will how to schedule uipath robots though a windows task scheduler. Following are the steps in sequential order.

Step 1:

Open the windows task scheduler in the machine where you want the robot to be scheduled.
Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Task Scheduler

Step 2:

Select the Task Scheduler Library, and click on Create Task from the actions pane on the right hand side.

Step 3:

Enter the name and the description of the robot which is being scheduled.

Select the target system, users, whether bot need to run on when user is logged on or not.
When the option run when user is logged on or not is selected then you need to provide credentials to login in windows credential manager. Open Credential Manager->Choose Windows Credentials and add a new Generic Credentials with the following format
Ø  Internet or network address: UiPath:user=<domain\username>*
Ø  User name: domain\username
Ø  Password: Your user's password

Step 4:

Select Triggers. Click on new to create a new trigger. Following screen appears.

Selcect from when the schedule needs to be started and at what time.
Whether the schedule needs to be run one time\daily\monthly\weekly.
Under advanced settings select delay type, re run details and running window period.
Check the box enabled. And then click ok.

Step 5:

Select Actions. Click on new button to create new action. Following screen appears.

Select action as start program. Click on browse to select the program to start. Add the complete path to UiRobot.exe application. This is usually located in C:\Program Files(x86)\UiPath Studio\v8\UiRobot.exe

In the arguments you need to pass the file name which needs to run. (Main file name that needs to be triggered is passed here. You should have invoke functionality that calls other files). In Add arguments edit add /file:"<absolute_path_to_your_main_workflow>" /monitor

You can set some advanced settings in the conditions and settings panes. For now let’s click OK, to complete the robot schedule. Now at the specified scheduled time the robot starts executing.

  1. Hello There,

Great post. Can’t get any more straight forward than this article. Thanks!
As I have been working on Blue Prism and UI Path but not Openspan, I can only tell you the following.
Personally, if feel UI Path is extremely user friendly.
Speed of implementation would be very high but anyone who has worked on it can sense the delay problem that has to be improved upon.
Can be used for various integration services with different workflow modules hence scoring high on re usability.
Citrix environment automation and desktop contribute to major pros of this tool. The architecture of the need to perform tool ensures future proof, meaning it can evolve in unbelievable measures.
It has a free community edition allowing everyone to download and learn with umpteen number of learning PDF’s and videos available online
Only con is lack of control. No coding. Neither C# nor VB script can be run.
Excellent tutorials - very easy to understand with all the details. I hope you will continue to provide more such tutorials.

    Muchas Gracias,
    Sony

  2. Hi There,

Thank You so much for this blog. It helped me lot. I am a Technical Recruiter by profession and first time working on this technology was bit tough for me, this article really helped me a lot to understand the details to get started with.
    Please tell me more things.
If I run the robot on the virtual servers, can I use same files on them?
And, if I use notepad on one virtual server, in this case I use notepad.exe on the virtual or any others, like cloud or local machine?
If I run the robot on the virtual servers, can I use same files on them? - Yes, you can execute the same files to execute. But you have to publish your source code to the virtual machine using Orchestrator.
If I use notepad on one virtual server, in this case I use notepad.exe on the virtual or any others, like cloud or local machine? If it is a Windows Machine, then by default Notepad will be available, you can call the same, just argument has to change if you are using.
Anyways great write up, your efforts are much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Lee

  4. Hello There,

10/10 !!! Thank you for making your blogs an embodiment of perfection and simplicity. You make everything so easy to follow. Uipath Training USA

I think it's also important to keep in mind that your approvals might come in at a rhythm that differs greatly from your logging rhythm. This might make less of a difference if you constantly log a high number of bugs but as a part-time job it basically means that you can't count on a regular steady income. You would also have to count in sick days and holidays and certain times of the year with less work available.
Thanks a lot. This was a perfect step-by-step guide. Don’t think it could have been done better.

    ,Merci

  5. NayHoh,

Great info! I recently came across your blog and have been reading along.
I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that.

. If you use the VB6 examples in the release Uipath Training USA , please speak up.  VB6 has not been supported for years and just want to see if anybody uses them before I recommend them to be dropped form the release tree.

You can find them in your tree here:  SDD_HOME\standard\examples\pcb\Automation\VisualBasic6

Awesome! Thanks for putting this all in one place. Very useful!

    Many Thanks,
    Kevin

For abby, i have imported namespace as well, For MODI, i have already installed SharePoint designer and enabled Microsoft Document Imagining Feature. For google i only found , Google Core API and i have imported that

  7. Aloha,

Nice to be visiting your blog again, it has been months for me. Well this article that i’ve been waited for so long.

I took a university course regarding java for beginners so it helped me very well in programming.
You can try and learn from youtube and other video sources, they are better than learning from books.
The major part is programming and writing code by your self, and I think the best method for that is to learn to program some basic games and progress from there.
After good knowledge and practice with a language, it will be easier to start automating staff. UiPath Training Tutorial

By the way do you have any YouTube videos, would love to watch it. I would like to connect you on LinkedIn, great to have experts like you in my connection (In case, if you don’t have any issues).
Please keep providing such valuable information.

    Kind Regards,
    Ajeeth
